What are the 10 advantages of merino wool?
1)Merino wool is not itchy: it is soft and comfortable
Why merino wool does not itch?
Because the finer the fiber, the less itchy it is. As merino fiber is three times finer than a hair because it is only between 20 and 16 microns, no more warm sweaters that give you unpleasant itching sensations on your body.
Merino wool avoids, due to its fineness, any unpleasant sensation on the skin. It offers a soft and warm feeling on the skin.
2) Merino wool is thermoregulating: it regulates body temperature

It is a wool that can be worn in summer as well as in winter because the fibres offer the property of trapping small air cushions or cells. These air cushions act as a real thermal insulator that allows to regulate your body temperature.
It protects you from the cold in winter, but also from the heat of summer: it is thermoregulating.
So it allows you to buy less clothes, and yes, that is also an argument for sustainability: less but better! Because our sweaters are easily adapted to the 4 seasons.
3) Merino wool regulates humidity and dries quickly
Does merino wool dry quickly? Merino wool fibres are hydrophilic, they can absorb up to 35% of their weight in moisture. But it doesn't feel wet because the surface of the fibre stays dry, the moisture is transported to the core of the fibre. This is an advantage because the wool remains warm and cosy, you will have a feeling of comfort and well-being despite high humidity. Moreover, the finer the merino wool, the faster it dries.
4) Merino wool neutralizes odours and has antibacterial properties
I've heard that a merino wool sweater loses odours in the open air?
As it is a fibre that remains dry on the surface, it limits the development of bacteria and therefore at the same time the bad smells. It has strong anti-bacterial properties, among others because within the fibers is a molecule, keratin, which helps to destroy bacteria.
Did you know that?
A merino garment does not need to be washed after each use: You hang it in the fresh air, for example near an open window or on a balcony and it loses its odors! You save one wash and therefore water and energy: your sweater is therefore more durable during the life cycle use than a sweater made of synthetic fibers or cotton.

Why is wool easy to clean?
The outer layer, thanks to the system of scales, avoids that dirt such as stains (soil, grease, ketchup ... and others) are embedded in the fiber but remain on the surface. 6) Non-allergenic
According to a recent study, merino wool is beneficial for the skin and is even recommended against eczema (inflammatory condition caused by dry skin). The skin is our largest organ, so it is better to take care of it by wearing natural fibres and not clothes derived from petrochemistry.

Why is merino wool sustainable?
Produced by merino sheep, merino wool is a 100% natural and renewable material! It needs to be produced: grass, water and fresh air. No pollution by chemicals during its production. The biggest producer of merino wool is Australia, followed by New Zealand. The wool in its natural state is 100% biodegradable, it decomposes and can be used as fertilizer because it releases nutrients.
10) What is mulesing free merino wool?
What is Mulesing?
It is a surgical operation, which consists in removing the skin around the tail of the merino sheep. This operation is performed without anaesthesia by the breeders, and the sheep take several weeks to heal if they do not have infections. The operation is traumatic for the animal.
This treatment is preventive and it allows the prevention of Myase: a disease contracted following the laying of fly larvae in the wet folds of the skin of sheep. Myiasis endangers the health of the sheep and therefore its wool and yield. New Zealand prohibits the Mulesing since 2018, it is thus the case of our wool which comes from New Zealand.
