The 90s, an iconic era that continues to inspire today's trends, with looks inspired directly by that period increasingly present on the catwalks and streets. That's why we're diving back into this vintage universe, where denim, bold prints and relaxed silhouettes reign supreme!

The origins of a style that shaped an entire era

Before analyzing this trend, let's go back to the origins of the style that shaped this era: the 90s. Indeed, everyone sometimes remembers this period as spontaneous and more liberated than today. It was marked by an effervescence of styles, from laid-back grunge to minimalist looks to outfits influenced by stars of the era such as Brytney Spears and Madonna. Emblematic pieces such as T-shirts with daring messages and teen jeans left their mark on our teenage wardrobes. It was also the golden age of designers such as Alexander McQueen, who imposed his futuristic vision with spectacular shows (flames, dresses spray-painted live by robotic arms, a dark, romantic atmosphere typical of his artistic style). In France, it was Jean Paul Gaultier who made his mark with a funk style. Known for his conical-breasted corsets and men's skirts. It's a no-holds-barred style that continues to develop and break codes.

A comeback more popular than ever

Today, almost 30 years later, the minimalist, casual fashion of the nineties is back. Supported by fashion icons of recent years such as Bella Hadid and Selena Gomez, a new generation of icons is setting social networks alight, constantly revisiting the fashion of years gone by. Their cool, elegant '90s looks are being copied the world over. Today's 1990s craze is explained by the natural cycle of trends. In the journal FASHION UNITED, a consultant explains that in fashion, there is often a mirror effect equivalent to a generation, i.e. inspirations that draw their sources from 20 to 30 years back. This mirror effect is justified by the nostalgic effect of an era that young consumers have little or nothing to do with, so they can fantasize about it. What's more, today's designers, such as Simon Porte Jacquemus and Olivier Rousteing, were themselves teenagers during this period, which represents a source of inspiration that can be found in their current creations, and which they have been revisiting constantly in recent years. On the accessories side too, we find plenty of nineties-influenced inspiration, from Dr Martens to charm bracelets and hairbands worn like the character Monica in the 1995 series Friend. All these outfits are already well established on our Instagram and Pinterest feeds, worn by many influencers like Lena Situation or Chiara Ferragni, who continue to inspire us to recreate ever more trendy looks unconsciously or not.

90s and eco-responsible fashion?

Is it possible to mix 90s fashion with eco-responsible clothing that takes care of our planet? Of course it is. Even if ecology and environmental protection weren't yet recognized as a cause during this period, they've come a long way today! Here you'll find minimalist tops like the Zalabis linen shirt for women, or the Zenith shirt for men, available in a range of colors (blue, white and pink stripes). What's more, we also make short linen skirts, like our Zulia model in gray or black, also available in midi cut, depending on your tastes - a very fashionable piece during the nineties!
